Cypress’s new High Performance Programmable Oscillator, the CY294X family, is designed to meet the demands of the ever increasing global network traffic.
With the global network traffic expected to increase in the coming years, the Ethernet line rates would increase dramatically in routers and switches. Our High Performance Programmable Oscillator meets all the new reference clock requirements of faster Ethernet data transfer standards.
The low-noise programmable PLL technology allows the device to produce any frequency between 15 MHz and 2100 MHz, while achieving an industry leading RMS phase jitter of 110 fs. Operates at supply voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V, and displays reliable performance for ambient temperatures ranging from –40 °C to +105°C.
The Cypress Programmable Oscillator offers Flexible configurations in terms of being field and factory programmable. The I2C-configurable frequency margining and VCXO are the other value added features. The family is made available in multiple footprints viz., 8-pin 5 x 3.2 LCC, 8-pin 7 x 5 LCC and 16-pin 3 x 3 QFN packages.
The CY294X family can potentially replace SAW oscillators (SO), overtone Crystal Oscillators (XO), Inverted MESA oscillators, and other high-performance clock synthesizer solutions. It has best-in-class performance compared to all oscillators and offers a viable and cheaper solution to SAW oscillators and Crystal Oscillators. A single device with 4 pre-programmed frequencies and Frequency Select pin can replace 4 SO/XO devices, thus minimizing the inventory to a great extent.
The Cypress Programmable Oscillator specifically targets high-performance applications such as routers, switches, wireless base stations and other networking applications where a low-phase jitter of < 0.3ps is a requirement. With a best Jitter of 0.1ps the device offers the designer an additional jitter budget.
CY3676 and CY3677 are designed to evaluate the features of the High Performance Programmable Oscillator. CY3676 evaluates the LCC packaged device, and CY3677 evaluates the QFN packaged device.
