Sobey Selects Cypress's HOTLink™ Video SERDES And Equalizer For Professional Video Broadcasting Equipment
Solutions Deliver Industry-Leading Performance for Advanced Digital Editing
SAN JOSE, Calif., September 6, 2007 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that Sobey Digital Technology Co., Ltd. is using two products in Cypress's professional video portfolio for its video editing equipment. Sobey's SD Non-Linear Editor Box leverages both the Cypress HOTLink™ II SERDES and SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer. The SERDES provides interfacing to coax cables or fiber optics for reliable video transmissions, while the SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer delivers interference-free video signals.
The HOTLink-On-Demand™ family of multichannel video SERDES is the largest and most flexible portfolio of Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) standards-compliant physical layer devices (PHYs) on the market, which translates to simplified design for broadcast equipment manufacturers. The SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer removes inter-symbol interference from video signals traveling over a cable, and it uses adaptive equalization to support different cable lengths up to an industry-best 350 meters. The equalizers offer a power savings of up to 40 percent over competing solutions.
"In the television broadcasting industry, where faulty equipment leads to highly visible errors, Sobey's video editing equipment is counted on for reliable, uninterrupted performance," said Chen Feng, president, Sobey Digital Technology. "Cypress video broadcasting solutions meet our high standards for performance and offer many configurations for design flexibility."
"Cypress's professional video portfolio has a proven track record, which leading broadcasting equipment manufacturers such as Sobey look for," said Gopal Garg, managing director of Video and Interconnect Devices at Cypress. "Our unrivaled HOTLink SERDES enable the highest quality of transmissions and the scalability to meet a wide range of industry standards, while our video equalizers maintain this quality standard and offer flexible data rates."
Cypress will demonstrate its complete video interface solution, including the HOTLink-On-Demand family of video SERDES, multi-format equalizers, and cable drivers, in booth 11.103 at the International Broadcasters Conference (IBC) 2007 to be held at the RAI Convention Centre, Amsterdam, Netherlands from September 6 through September 10, 2007. About the HOTLink-On-Demand Family
The devices in the HOTLink-On-Demand family are designed so that each channel can run at either SMPTE 259M or 292M speeds. In addition, all devices feature an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and phase-lock loop (PLL), as well as an innovative chip design that eliminates channel crosstalk and performs significantly better than the SMPTE jitter specification. The portfolio also includes devices that allow one channel to be a transmitter and another to be an independent reclocking deserializer, which is particularly useful in up/down converter applications.
About Cypress Video Equalizers
Cypress's CYV270M0101EQ SD/DVB-ASI equalizers are compliant with the SMPTE 259M data rates. The devices are pin-compatible with existing solutions, giving users an easy migration path without board redesign. The superior eye diagram characteristics of the equalizers allow for more forgiving board design, such as longer trace lengths and other less-than-optimal board conditions. The devices use a 3.3V power supply deliver for low power consumption and feature superior jitter performance.
