Cypress Webinar On November 7 Demonstrates Rapid Embedded Design With The PSoC® FirstTouch™ Starter Kit

Last Updated: June 01, 2020

Free Online Seminar Teaches How to Design CapSense™ Touch, Temperature, Light,

And Proximity Sensing Applications via the PSoC Express™ Design Tool

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 5, 2007 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced a free online seminar that uses the PSoC® FirstTouch™ Starter Kit to demonstrate how embedded designers can cut time to market with PSoC mixed-signal arrays. The 60-minute seminar entitled "On-Time Embedded Development with Cypress PSoC Mixed-Signal Arrays and the Cypress PSoC FirstTouch Embedded Design Starter Kit," will be presented in conjunction with CMP Media's Electronic Engineering Times on Wednesday, November 7 at 9:00 a.m. PDT.

The seminar will show attendees how to get started designing with PSoC mixed-signal arrays quickly with the PSoC FirstTouch Starter Kit. The presenters will show a single PSoC chip performing several embedded designs, including CapSense™ touch sensing, temperature sensing, light sensing, and CapSense proximity sensing. Using Cypress's PSoC Express™ visual embedded system design tool, they will modify these designs and create new designs in minutes. Interested parties can get more information and register for the seminar at

The PSoC FirstTouch Starter Kit is a USB thumbdrive kit that provides a quick and easy way for embedded customers to evaluate the integration, flexibility, and real mixed-signal programmability of PSoC mixed-signal arrays for only US$29.95." Without writing or debugging a single line of C or Assembly code, the PSoC FirstTouch Starter Kit, working with Cypress's PSoC Express design tool, provides designers with multiple sensing applications right out of the box. Customers can also experiment with many more designs available on, or build their own in minutes via PSoC Express.  They can also add all of this functionality directly to their own development systems via the detachable expansion card.

"The PSoC FirstTouch Starter Kit is an affordable, convenient tool for designers to experience the flexibility of PSoC mixed-signal programmability in popular sensing applications," said Geoff Charubin, vice president of Global Marketing and Applications for Cypress." "This webinar will use the FirstTouch Kit to show both newcomers and veteran designers of embedded systems how to get products to market faster with PSoC and PSoC Express software."

PSoC -- Because Change Happens

PSoC devices employ a highly configurable system-on-chip architecture for embedded control design, offering a flash-based equivalent of a field-programmable ASIC without lead-time or NRE penalties. PSoC devices integrate configurable analog and digital circuits, controlled by an on-chip microcontroller, providing both enhanced design revision capability and component count savings. They include up to 32 Kbytes of Flash memory, 2 Kbytes of SRAM, an 8x8 multiplier with 32-bit accumulator, power and sleep monitoring circuits, and hardware I2C communications.

The flexible PSoC resources allow designers to future-proof their products by enabling firmware-based changes during design, validation, production, and in the field. The unique PSoC flexibility shortens design cycle time and allows for late-breaking feature enhancements. All PSoC devices are also dynamically reconfigurable, enabling designers to morph internal resources on-the-fly, utilizing fewer components to perform a given task.

Easy to use development tools enable designers to select configurable library elements for analog functions such as amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, filters and comparators and digital functions such as timers, counters, PWMs, SPI and UARTs. The PSoC family's analog features include rail-to-rail inputs, programmable gain amplifiers and up to 14-bit ADCs with exceptionally low noise, input leakage and voltage offset.

A single PSoC device can integrate as many as 100 peripheral functions saving customers design time, board space and power consumption while improving system quality. Customers can save as much as $10 in system costs. Learn more about PSoC products at and receive free online training at"
