Cypress USB Solution Helps intelliPaper Turn Plain Paper into USB Flash Drives

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 30, 2014 – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today announced that its enCoRe™ V USB microcontroller (MCU) brings storage of digital content and USB connectivity to intelliPaper’s innovative intelligent paper products. Cypress worked with intelliPaper to offer the enCoRe V device in an ultra-thin package that enables intelliPaper to embed it directly into plain paper, which can then be folded to provide a USB connection. The resulting intelligent paper can be used for products such as smart business cards that digitally contain contact info and product brochures that contain links and digital content. The highly-integrated enCoRe MCU eliminates the need for other external components, also contributing to the unique form factor of intelliPaper products.
enCoRe stands for enhanced component reduction, as the devices include Cypress’s patented crystal-less oscillator and integrated pull-up resistor to reduce component count and bill-of-material cost. The in-system reprogrammable enCoRe V MCUs provide design flexibility with a 10-bit ADC, Flash memory with EEPROM emulation, and eight USB endpoints. The devices also feature customized application and firmware capabilities.
