Cypress MicroSystems Introduces Small-Scale MLF Packages for PSoC Mixed-Signal Arrays
Critical Package Solution Offers Outstanding Price, Performance for PDAs, Laptops, MP3 Players
Cypress PR
LYNNWOOD, Wash., April 29, 2004 - Cypress MicroSystems Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), today introduced a number of the company's popular Programmable System-on-Chip(TM) (PSOC(TM)) mixed-signal array devices in the space-saving MicroLeadFrame(R) (MLF) package. The small size and weight, along with excellent thermal and electrical performance, make the MLF package an ideal choice for handheld portable devices
"PSoC gives designers the ultimate in flexibility," said
Utilizing flush leads, MLF packaging has a 50 percent smaller footprint and roughly half the parasitic lead inductance of conventional 4.4 mm. SSOP packages. The package offers ExposedPad(TM) technology as a thermal enhancement by having the die attach paddle exposed on the bottom of the package surface to provide an efficient heat path when soldered directly to the PWB. In addition to lower thermal impedance and a substantially smaller footprint, MLF packaging significantly reduces package profile height (</= 1 mm.). Thinner-profile packages are particularly useful in the design of highly integrated or portable applications that require height restrictions, thus reducing board space and OEM manufacturing costs.
Pricing and Availability
Available in 48-lead MLF packages, pricing in 10,000-unit quantities is $2.35 each for the CY8C27xxx; $1.45 each for the CY8C24xxx and $1.07 each for the CY8C22xxx.
About the PSoC Family
Programmable System-on-Chip (PSoC) devices are high-performance, field-programmable, mixed-signal arrays for high-volume embedded-control functions in consumer, industrial, office automation, telecom and automotive applications. PSoC devices integrate programmable blocks of analog and digital logic, a fast 8-bit MCU, up to 16 kbytes of flash memory and 256 bytes of
All PSoC devices are dynamically reconfigurable, enabling designers to create new system functions on-the-fly. Re-using the same silicon for different functions on different clock cycles, designers can achieve more than 120% utilization of the die in many cases. In the automotive PSoC
To further shorten design cycles, the PSoC family includes pre-programmed, specialized versions for lighting, energy, motor control, communications, automotive and battery applications. Each family member comes with a reference design and extensive application notes to speed application development.
