Cypress Extends Video PHY Leadership with Introduction of SMPTE And DVB-ASI Serial Digital Video Demonstration Platform

Full-Featured SMPTE-Compliant HOTLink II(TM) SERDES to be Demonstrated at NAB Conference, April 19-21 in Las Vegas, Nevada

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 16, 2004 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), a world leader in backplane physical-layer devices (PHYs), today introduced a serial digital video demonstration platform designed to showcase the capabilities of its quad independent-channel HOTLink II video transceiver.  

The video demonstration board (CYV15G0403DX-VIDEO) is a self-contained professional video demonstration system ideal for applications requiring compliance with the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 259M and 292M standards and the Digital Video Broadcast - Asynchronous Serial Interface (DVB-ASI) standard.  The CYV15G0403DX-VIDEO board enables designers to configure each of the four channels of the HOTLinkII SERDES individually.  Each channel can handle a different video standard signal (SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 292M, or DVB-ASI). 

"The HOTLink II quad independent channel device consolidates four stand-alone devices into a single, independent-channel chip, which will enable designers to realize a 70% component count reduction, reduced board space, and a cost reduction of approximately 50%, all without sacrificing design flexibility," said Deepak Sharma, physical layer product marketing manager.  "This new platform will allow our customers to see all the benefits of using our HOTLink II video SERDES in a standard video test environment."

The CYV15G0403DX-VIDEO platform incorporates such functions as SMPTE scrambling and descrambling, auto-rate detection, reclocking, SMPTE pathological test pattern generation, and color bar generation, all on a per-channel basis.   The platform also showcases Cypress's seamless performance with third-party cable drivers and equalizers.  Other unique features include SD-SDI to HD-SDI up-conversion and the ability to transmit video over a Cypress EZ-USB FX2 connection and view that video on a PC display with a software application, or to transmit an image from a PC over a USB connection through the quad independent-channel HOTLink II SERDES and view the image on a SDI video monitor.
