Cypress Envirosystems' Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat Wins Gold in ACHR News 2010 Dealer Design Awards
Panel of Contractors Selects Energy-Saving WPT for Top Honors
In Commercial Controls Category
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 13, 2010 — Cypress Envirosystems, a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY), was recognized for excellence in product design in the 6th annual Dealer Design Awards Program sponsored by The Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration News magazine. An independent panel of 30 contractors acted as judges in the contest that had 114 entries from different industry brands. The company’s Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat (WPT) was the Gold Award Winner in the Commercial Controls category. The ACHR News is the leading trade magazine in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration industries.
The patent-pending WPT solution retrofits existing pneumatic thermostats to deliver direct digital control (DDC) functionality in minutes. Compared with the cost to implement conventional DDC retrofit, the WPT costs 80% less, pays back in 18 months or shorter, and can be installed in under 20 minutes with minimal disruption of occupants. It enables remote temperature sensing and control of setpoints, programmable zone control and night setback, automatic self-calibration, BACnet integration with existing automation systems, and communication with utility Demand Response programs. Sensor data gathered by the WPT is used for retro and ongoing commissioning to save energy and reduce maintenance costs.
ACHR News Publisher John Conrad stated, “These awards give us a unique opportunity to recognize the outstanding research and development efforts that go into many of the products serving the HVACR industry and the awards issue gives our readers an opportunity to read about innovative installation and service solutions."
“We are pleased to have the WPT bring home the gold from the Dealer Design Awards,” said Harry Sim, CEO of Cypress Envirosystems. “Customers are experiencing the fast payback, smart control and data communication, and savings in energy usage and maintenance costs that the WPT delivers.”
First introduced in 2008, the WPT is now used in over 100 sites across North America including Fortune 500 office buildings, hospitals, universities, K-12 schools and government buildings.
Winning entries in the Dealer Design Awards were featured in the July 12, 2010 issue of The ACHR News, which is distributed nationally to over 33,000 HVACR contractors, wholesalers, and other industry professionals.
