EZ-PD™ CCG3 based HDMI over Type-C Cable Reference Design

The Type-C to HDMI cable solution enables connectivity between a USB Type-C receptacle supporting the new HDMI Alternate Mode standard and a legacy HDMI display.

This cable solution will have a Type-C plug on one end and HDMI plug on the other end. The cable solution meets the compliance requirements described in Section 6 of the HDMI 1.4b Alt Mode on USB Type-C Standard Version 1.0a (January 17, 2017). The adapter solution supports display output at resolution of up to 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160) at 60Hz. The solution also supports integrated USB Billboard Device Class used to communicate the HDMI Alternate Mode to a host system which does not support this mode.

CCG3 (CYPD3120) is a single chip solution which integrates USB Power Delivery Type-C transceiver, USB Billboard controller, HDMI CEC transceiver and HDMI DDC re-driver reducing BOM cost and solution footprint. The solution also includes an SBU MUX to meet safe state requirements of the Type-C spec. CCG3 for the Type-C to DisplayPort cable solution is available in 40-QFN package. 

Cypress provides latest FW and configuration files (refer to Related Files section below) for CYPD3120 based on updates to the USB-PD, USB Type-C and HDMI Alternate Mode specifications.
