The communication interface for this solution is GPO. This Matrix solution is backwards compatible with standard mechanical matrix overlays, offering the required output to communicate with a host processor.
This solution can emulate a typical Keypad Scan Interface similar to that of a mechanical keypad.
Cypress's world leading CapSense® technology is now the easiest to use for matrix keypads. This 16 button configurable solution is ready to provide a quick time-to-market advantage for customers, and contains Cypress's SmartSense, which auto-tunes for variance in temperature, noise, and overlay thickness. SmartSense establishes, monitors, and maintains the matrix SNR (System-to-Noise Ratio) for optimal CapSense performance.
With auto-tuning, the value provided by this solution is simple: the ability to create a unique user interface solution without having to learn or utilize custom programming firmware. The Matrix Keypad is outside of a standard MCU development environment, offering pin configurable solutions for setting button sensitivity, flanking sensor suppression, and General Purpose Output (GPO) functionality. This ends the need to both tune the system in development as well as during test, saving valuable engineering resources.
The Matrix Keypad is also backwards compatible with standard mechanical matrix overlays, offering the requisite output to communicate with a host processor. Customers no longer have to define a completely new interface system for a capacitive transition, but can maintain overall system stability.

With the addition of SmartSense, no firmware coding is necessary to implement this functional Matrix system. The CapSense device will automatically detect a change in a parameter such as temperature and adjust in-system, eliminating the need for intensive tuning.
