WICED™ Now Supports HomeKit
When consumers bring new devices into their homes — perhaps a thermostat or lighting controller — the set-up process can make or break the experience. They want a device that can be brought onboard their home, and securely connected with other devices — without a lot of headache.
That vision is being realized with Apple’s new HomeKit Accessory Protocol. In iOS 8, Apple introduces HomeKit, a new framework that delivers a common protocol for simple set up and communication with devices in the home, including integration with Siri. The Broadcom WICED™ software development kit supports HomeKit and makes integration easy for device manufacturers to add the ability for their customers to securely pair and control devices throughout the home.
Broadcom’s WICED engineering team is enabling faster time to market for connected devices, with robust all-inclusive networking stacks for products to identify themselves on the Wi-Fi network and be identified by a smartphone.
It’s a clear win for consumers, but device-makers benefit too, because WICED’s “out of the box” software development platform makes it easy to integrate instant connectivity with HomeKit into product prototypes.
That way, developers can spend their time perfecting the user experience of their connected devices and can get them to market faster, while consumers get to enjoy a sleek new device that plugs right into their busy lives. Information about Broadcom’s WICED is available here.
