Project #004: CapSense Proximity
In today's project, we demonstrate how to use CapSense for proximity sensing applications.
Capacitive proximity sensing works on the principle that if you tune-up the sensitivity of a CapSense sensor, it can detect the presence of conductive objects (like your hand) without the need for an actual touch. The issue with such a highly sensitive sensor is around noise and EMI. Cypress's CapSense includes SmartSense Auto-Tuning, an algorithm that continously monitors and updates Capacitive Sensing Parameters for the best sensor performance, thereby guaranteeing best possible performance under noisy conditions.
Since CapSense is not supported by a standard Bluetooth Low Energy Profile, we implement a Custom Profile in the Bluetooth Low Energy Component to send the CapSense Proximity data over Bluetooth Low Energy.
