A Smart Watch That’s Wyze
Wyze Band Fitness Tracker Shines with PSoC®6 BLE SoC Delivering Secure Connections, Long Battery Life, and a Responsive Touch Interface
Earlier this year, Wyze introduced the Wyze Band generating a symphony of positive reviews from the news media. PC Magazine dubbed it an “Editors’ Choice” winner for its “wide range of features for the price.” And Kate Kozuch of Tom’s Guide, who gave the $25 fitness tracker 3-1/2 out of five stars, said that “All things considered, Wyze did a great job at packing so many features into such a cheap device.”
The Wyze band is a low-priced fitness tracker that lets users control smart-home devices from their wrist. Some of the device’s key features include Alexa voice controls, sports health monitoring, message notification, touch controls, and a vibrant screen. What’s more, the device can operate for up to 10 days between charges.
“We are excited to bring products packed with features but at a fraction of the price to the market,” said Dongsheng Song, chief product officer and co-founder of Wyze. “By doing so, we hope everyone can enjoy technology that will help with their life in small or big way.”
The Wyze Band is the company’s first foray into IoT wearables, complementing a wide array of other smart-home products, including security cameras, door locks, personal healthcare products, and light bulbs. Obsessed with privacy and personal data protection since early in the design process, Wyze chose Cypress’ PSoC MCU for its advanced security capabilities.
“We prioritized security since the beginning of product design and implemented various security measures throughout the development process,” Song said. “We take user data privacy extremely seriously, from device to app to cloud database. At the device level, the security mechanism in PSoC 6 for both storing and transmitting data is a big component of how we protect user data. It also provides protection for communication between the device and app.”
PSoC 6 is also instrumental in helping the Wyze Band achieve a record 10 days of battery life between charges—40 percent longer than competing fitness trackers. “Low power consumption and excellent battery life up to 10 days with normal use is one of the core differentiators of the Wyze Band,” said Song. “We’ve achieved these two goals by properly using PSoC 6’s two compute cores for different tasks, and by leveraging its BLE connectivity, flexible clocking capability, and power management features.”
Song said the PSoC 6 device also plays a significant role in the device’s human-machine interface, from driving best-in-class capacitive touch-sensing capabilities, to enabling Alexa voice controls.
