Mini Problem Solvers Take Over Cypress San Jose
We recently invited our HQ Family to bring their future Problem Solvers to our offices in San Jose, California, to celebrate Take Your Kids to Work Day! The day was full of creative activities, a scavenger hunt, volunteering and scoops and scoops of ice cream.
The kids spent their morning watching, helping and learning more about their parent’s roles at work. They experienced the ins-and-outs of a typical day at Cypress and learning more about what their parents do when they are away from home. While they were at Cypress, the kids had an opportunity to learn a little bit about each division of our company and what different roles were like. They were encouraged to think about their own future and the types of problems they feel inspired to solve.
The problem solving parents also taught their kids how to build their own homemade Wigglebot! Using just a few materials like a plastic cup, AAA batteries and a 1.5-3 V DC motor. To create your own or to learn more about the project, check out this tutorial.
We then set out to complete a scavenger hunt. The kids had the chance to design their own Cypress logo, take a picture with an Executive, learn about PSoC®, explore the lab and more! The kids also got more familiar with our campus by exploring what connected products are developed with Cypress technology, the layout of our IoT workshop and even where we house our company meetings.
During our Take Your Kids to Work Day, parents also had the opportunity teach their kids about the value of giving back and the importance of community. As a company, we are committed to helping local communities where our employees live and work, so we were excited to partner with My New Red Shoes, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless and low-income children in the Bay Area. This vital program provides underserved children with the basic necessities of new, well-fitting shoes and clothing for school. The problem solving parents and kids worked side-by-side to pair, tag and barcode more than 500 pairs of shoes to help local children in need.
To round out our event, our Chief Problem Solver Hassane El-Khoury, CMO Chris Cook and CLO Pam Tondreau hosted an ice cream social! With bowls of ice cream filled with cherries and sprinkles, the day wrapped up with quality time for kids and their parents to reflect on the day’s activities and what they learned.
We had a blast hosting these future problem solvers and were thrilled to show them the importance of hard work, social responsibility and how to have fun. We hope to see even more aspiring problem solvers join us at HQ in the years to come!
