Highlights from Cypress' Worldwide Social Responsibility Initiatives
Cypress is committed to being a good corporate citizen in each of the communities in which we operate. With our team members located in different parts of the world, examples of our commitment to education, basic needs, environmental improvement and community development can be seen globally. Here are some highlights of the dedicated efforts of our employees and their families:
Our Bangkok office regularly participates in community enhancement activities. Most recently, a total of 184 volunteers (117 employees and 67 family members), embarked on an all-day event on Si Chang Island to help restore wildlife habitats by transplanting coral to the Ao Thai Sea.
Cypress Penang was one of 20 companies recognized with the prestigious Penang Green Office (PGO) Award, earning recognition for the second consecutive year, for its exemplary green office practices. The Penang location is also PBA Aquasave Certified, highlighting Cypress’s strong efforts in water conservation.
Cypress Philippines hosts an annual community service program called Project Angel Tree to bring the Christmas spirit to underserved communities. For the last eight years, the company Christmas tree has been home to paper angels with simple Christmas wishes which Cypress’s employees can fulfill. In 2015 alone, the team donated a total of 400 gifts to the elderly, victims of sexual abuse, as well as abandoned and neglected children.
To help excite Ukrainian youth about information technology (IT), Cypress participated in a project with Lviv IT Cluster, a community of leading IT companies that work with universities and local authorities to improve and develop IT within Lviv. In addition to helping kids get familiar with IT, Cypress Ukraine also organized an event for local children to celebrate St. Nicholas Day. The festivities included a “Minions” show which was well received by the children and parents alike.
Many teachers are increasingly spending their own money on school supplies for their students due to dwindling school budgets. To support local teachers and students, each year Cypress donates unused office supplies to the Allison Elementary School in Austin, Texas. Additionally, Cypress collected 45 backpacks filled school supplies and over $9,000 in donations for the Foundation Communities Back to School Drive to ensure kids are prepared for success.
The Colorado Springs office may be small, but it is mighty. Our 81-person team raised over $19,000 for the Care and Share Food Bank in 2015. With Cypress Colorado Springs’ generous donations, Core and Share was able to help stock 3,800 families’ cupboards for a month.
The team in Oregon has participated in the Christmas Family Adoption Foundation program for more than five years. With our employees’ generous donations and help wrapping gifts, Cypress Santa helped deliver Christmas joy to a deserving family.
San Jose, Calif.
Cypress San Jose employees regularly participate in food and fund drives benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest hosts annual awards, including the Brass Ring, Corporate Food Bowl and Employee Food Bowls, which pit companies against each other in competition for the most food and funds raised. Cypress is committed to being a key contributor and partner in the fight against hunger, and we are proud to be 24-year Corporate Food Bowl and six-year Employee Food Bowl champions.
While most people would be scrambling to prepare for their Thanksgiving meals, a group of 19 employees and family members participated in the Hopelink Turkey Trot in 2015. Through the efforts of the team in our Washington Design Center, over $2,000 was donated to the Hopelink, supporting the local homeless community and low-income families.
