Cypress Celebrates Innovations at CES 2016

A few weeks ago, Cypress hit the floor of the 48th annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, joining nearly 3,800 exhibitors to showcase our latest innovations in automotive, Bluetooth Low Energy, USB type-C and wearable technology. This year’s highly-anticipated event had record-breaking attendance with over 170,000 tech enthusiasts coming together to celebrate cutting-edge innovations fueling the future of consumer technology.

Cypress demonstrated some of our coolest technology including our Bluetooth Smart Mesh demo implementation for lighting applications. Mesh networking extends the range of Bluetooth by allowing devices to send data to and receive data from multiple neighboring devices—a critical capability for many IoT applications. Demos from our automotive profile received high praise from customers, partners and event attendees as we eagerly discussed our new solutions for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates powered by our latest line of Traveo™ MCUs. FOTA updates enable consumers to get new software fixes and features and new applications for their vehicles on-the-go. Cypress also showcased our automotive Power Management ICs (PMICs) and new automotive LED driver, which enables the industry's most compact solution for front lighting systems.

Cypress’s booth was located next to the hub of many of the drone demos and we were able to catch a glimpse of the last drone from our partner Parrot. Hexoskin’s booth also featured Cypress’s technology in the company’s new Hexoskin Smart biometric-tracking shirts, integrated with our Bluetooth Smart-based EZ-BLE™ PRoC™ module. These super smart shirts are designed for athletes, fitness enthusiasts and health researchers, with moisture-wicking fabric, and several lab-validated sensors that track cardiac, respiratory and activity data.

In addition, Cypress showcased our three new Bluetooth Low Energy modules, EZ-PD™ CCG4 two-port USB-C controller and Solar Powered IoT Device Development Kit which generates its own electricity and can be embedded into any IoT device. Cypress’s energy harvesting technology was even featured as one of the “10 best technologies of the Consumer Electronics Show” according to VentureBeat’s Takahashi.

 

After an inspiring week spent among fellow tech-lovers pushing the boundaries of design and innovation, Cypress is excited to see what the rest of 2016 has in store for consumer technology. If CES is any indication of how the year will pan out, we’re sure it’s going to be an exciting year!
