Silence the Competition with TrueTouch®
Today´s touchscreen devices face tough environments. With form factors becoming thinner, chargers and displays becoming noisier, and consumers using their devices in harsher conditions, providing high touch performance demands a tougher touchscreen controller. TrueTouch touchscreen controllers leverage the industry's broadest capacitive touch IP portfolio to deliver a new standard for performance, taking your design to the next level and silencing the competition.
Introducing TMA448 and TMA445A: Expanding the Gen4X User Experience
TrueTouch introduces TMA448 and TMA445A, the latest additions to the Gen4X family of touchscreen controllers. TMA448 extends the Gen4X platform to cost-conscious smartphones, e-readers, and tablets, with support for screen sizes up to 8.3". TMA448 delivers the Gen4X family's best-in-class charger noise immunity through proprietary Charger Armor™ noise mitigation technology for performance other controllers can't match. Cypress's patented DualSense™ self and mutual capacitance sensing enables the industry's best waterproofing, built right into the chip. TMA448 also provides an enhanced user experience with support for glove touch. TMA448 provides full 10-finger functionality in thin gloves (< 1 mm) and two-finger touch with gestures in thick gloves (< 5 mm) for easy, reliable touchscreen operation in the cold.
TMA445A delivers the equivalent performance and functionality as TMA448 to smartphones, digitial still cameras and wearables up to 5” screen size. In addition, TMA445A provides face detection, a capacitive proximity sensing feature which detects face up to 25mm away. Face detection eliminates the need for additional IR proximity sensor to save overall system BOM and design footprint.
Expanding Possibilities with Gen5
With the industry's highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), best waterproofing capability, and largest portfolio of proprietary noise immunity solutions, TrueTouch-powered devices enable a new era of touch interaction and creativity. The Gen5 family delivers unmatched noise immunity performance and advanced feature support for various touch input modes. Gen5 supports passive stylus with built-in palm rejection, thin and thick gloves, and hover detection for screen sizes up to 8.3", making it a premier choice for superphones, tablets, and even wearables.
Make a Very Low-Cost, Thin Mobile Device with SLIM® Single-Layer Sensors
SLIM stands for Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch, and it is Cypress's proprietary single-layer capacitive touch sensor solution, designed for the lowest cost. It provides the multi-touch gesture support for larger screen sizes not supported by traditional single-layer sensors. SLIM enables the lowest-cost and thinnest mobile devices that consumers want, and it delivers an excellent user experience. SLIM is designed for mobile applications such as smartphones, digital cameras and e-readers. SLIM works with TrueTouch Gen4X touch controllers, and it delivers best-in-class accuracy, charger noise immunity, water tolerance, and glove support.

Our continued leadership in IP ensures that TrueTouch stays at the forefront of emerging touchscreen technology.
DualSense: Self-Capacitance and Mutual-Capacitance Sensing
TrueTouch is the only line of touchscreen controllers that can provide both self and mutual capacitance sensing on the same chip, and switch dynamically between the two in application. Our patented DualSense™ sensing capability (U.S. Patent Nos. 8,358,142; 8,319,505; 8,067,948) gives you the best of both technologies, enabling the development of truly advanced features for touchscreen devices like true waterproofing, passive stylus support, and hover.
Combining self plus mutual capacitance measurement with differential signal analysis in the same device delivers advanced features, like waterproofing, glove capability, passive stylus support, and hover that work in the real world for unbeatable performance.
Sensor Materials & Design
Touchscreen sensors are complex structures. They are built by sputtering indium tin oxide (ITO) onto a glass or PET (plastic film) substrate, and etching away a proprietary pattern into the ITO. The patterns and structures of layers in the sensor vary based on design need, and are custom to that individual system design.
On-stack is a traditional topology, and products are beginning to trend towards SLIM, Sensor-On-Lens, direct lamination, on-cell, or in-cell systems. TrueTouch provides the ultimate design flexibility and system cost reduction with our ability to support all of these sensor materials and stackups. Our controllers can be mounted on either the FPC or the PCB, and have configurable pinouts to suit a variety of needs.

TrueTouch Host Emulator Software
Cypress's TrueTouch Host Emulator (TTHE) is a PC-based software application that allows you to design, configure, tune and debug TrueTouch solutions. It reduces design cycle time by eliminating the need to manually compile source code, generate a firmware image and program the device. TTHE supports all register-configurable TrueTouch products. It interfaces with the controller in one of two ways:
- TrueTouch Bridge: Hardware that connects a TrueTouch controller on a PCB or an FPC to a host PC running TTHE. This supports prototyping and early stages of development.
- Mobile Tuner: Software that connects a TrueTouch-powered end product to a host PC running TTHE, either by USB or wireless connection. This provides a non-intrusive method to configure, tune, and debug TrueTouch controllers in production devices.

Cypress's TrueTouch® drivers are easy-to-integrate, high-performance, extensible software drivers that interface between the TrueTouch controller and a touchscreen device's operating system to accurately report touch input. Cypress delivers TrueTouch Driver for Android (TTDA) and TrueTouch Driver for WindowsPhone8 (TTDW). TrueTouch Driver for Android (TTDA) is also part of the Linux Kernel mainline.
TTDA and TTDW allow operating systems to recognize input from advanced features like passive stylus, face detection, and hover.
