As mobile devices are used for an ever-increasing number of applications, consumers expect more operating flexibility than was originally designed. Support from TrueTouch touchscreen controllers for differentiating features like glove, passive stylus, and built-in face detection take mobile designs to the next level.
Gen4 controllers enable touch detection through gloves up to 5 mm thick, for use in the coldest climates. 2 mm passive stylus support allows you to design exciting user interfaces and accurately capture handwriting input. Gen4´s built-in face detection capability uses capacitive proximity sensing to locate an object approaching from 25 mm away and intelligently disable touch detection to prevent unintended inputs, without requiring additional expensive components. Gen5 for the World's Best Performance in Noise
Stand out from the rest with the unmatched performance of TrueTouch Gen5. Gen5 leverages an all-new analog front end to give you the world´s best charger noise immunity – up to 40 Vpp from 1 – 500 kHz with a 0.5 mm cover lens and a 22 mm finger. It also combines multi-phase Tx and single-pass correlated high-frequency scanning for the highest in-application signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), another important tool in the fight against noise. Gen5 delivers the world´s best waterproofing capability, thanks to Cypress´s patented, built-in self plus mutual capacitance sensing that no one else can deliver. And it´s in-cell and on-cell stackup-ready, for true freedom of design.

Touchscreens are a rapidly evolving technology, and the market is quickly shifting to capacitive touch because of its ability to support full multitouch capability, including complex gestures. A capacitive touchscreen detects changes in measured capacitance to determine the location of one or more fingers on the surface of the touchscreen. The capacitive touchscreen consists of a sensor, a touchscreen controller, and a flexible printed circuit (FPC) that connects them all together.

TrueTouch is the only line of touchscreen controllers that can provide both self and mutual capacitance sensing on the same chip, and switch dynamically between the two in application. Sensor Materials & Design
Touchscreen sensors are complex structures. They are built by sputtering indium tin oxide (ITO) onto a glass or PET (plastic film) substrate, and etching away a proprietary pattern into the ITO. The patterns and structures of layers in the sensor vary based on design need, and are custom to that individual system design.
On-stack is a traditional topology, and products are beginning to trend towards Sensor-On-Lens, direct lamination, on-cell, or in-cell systems. TrueTouch provides the ultimate design flexibility and system cost reduction with our ability to support all of these sensor materials and stackups. Our controllers can be mounted on either the FPC or the PCB, and have configurable pinouts to suit a variety of needs.
