PSoC Creator 3.1 Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes a fix for the PWM component version 3.20, I2C component version 3.40 and UART version 2.40. The issues are detailed in the following three bullets.

  • In some instances, PWM version 3.20 takes up more PSoC chip resources than required.
  • I2C version 3.40 has an issue where the I2C_MasterSendStop() function never returns if arbitration is lost when I2C multi-master executes read transaction. The problem can occur at any time on any system. There is no workaround. Use the Component Update Tool to upgrade the component version to 3.50, which contains a fix to the problem.
  • The PWM-based implementation of the UART component has a serious defect in version 2.40 of the component. In half-duplex mode the transmitted data is corrupted. Note that full-duplex operation is unaffected by this defect and may be safely used.

PSoC Creator 3.1 Service Pack 2 (SP2) provided support for the new Cypress EZ-BLE PRoC module. The EZ-BLE PRoC module is an ARM Cortex-M0 based, programmable, SMT-ready, pre-certified, pre-qualified, small form-factor BLE module with integrated crystals, on-board chip antenna and passive components.  Just select CYBLE-022001-00 as your device when creating a new project. In addition to support for the BLE module, improvements were made for over 20 components and component datasheets (including additional examples).

Service Pack 1 contained:

  • Key updates to PSoC 4 Bluetooth Low Energy features.
  • Chip scale packaging support

See the Release Notes in the Documentation tab below to get full details on all the PSoC Creator 3.1 updates.

PSoC Creator is an Integrated Design Environment (IDE) which allows concurrent hardware and application firmware design of PSoC 3, PSoC 4, PSoC 4 BLE, PRoC BLE, and PSoC 5LP systems. PSoC systems are designed using classic, familiar schematic capture supported by over 120 pre-verified, production-ready PSoC Components™.

PSoC Components are analog and digital “virtual chips,” represented by an icon that users can drag-and-drop into a design and configure to suit a broad array of application requirements. Each component in the rich mixed-signal Cypress Component Catalog is configured with a Component Customizer and includes a full set of dynamically generated API libraries. Once the PSoC system has been configured, firmware can be written, compiled, and debugged within PSoC Creator or exported to top 3rd party IDEs from IAR, Keil, and Eclipse.

PSoC systems are energy optimized beyond a typical MCU because PSoC Creator optimizes designs using only the required functionality. Users can create custom PSoC Components using state machine diagrams or Verilog within PSoC Creator to further optimize hardware and energy usage.

PSoC Creator is a free Windows-based IDE that includes:

  • Hardware design with complete schematic capture
  • Over 120 pre-verified, production-ready PSoC Components
    • Full communications library including I2C, USB, UART, SPI, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
    • Tools to develop custom components in Verilog or via state machine diagram
    • Dynamically generated API libraries
  • Integrated C source code compiler and editor
  • Built-in debugger
