Two Cypress PC Peripherals Solutions Honored As EDN Hot Products Of 2005

Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip(TM) (PRoC(TM)) and enCoRe(TM) II USB microcontrollers recognized

San Jose, Calif., January 9, 2006 -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced that its Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip(TM) (PRoC(TM)) product and enCoRe(TM) II family of USB microcontrollers have been honored as two of the "100 Hot Products" for 2005 by EDN Magazine. The recognition confirms Cypress's leading position in USB and wireless connectivity for Human Interface Devices (HIDs). EDN's editors selected the products from the thousands of product announcements they receive each year.

PRoC combines Cypress's WirelessUSB(TM) 2.4-GHz radio-on-a-chip with the company's PSoC(R) (Programmable System-on-Chip(TM)) mixed-signal array, all in a single, integrated product. The devices enable wireless connectivity in a variety of applications, including PC peripherals, consumer electronics, home and industrial automation, transportation, security and medical systems. The enCoRe II (enhanced component reduction) family of low-speed USB microcontrollers offers a flash-based design that enables storage of wireless binding parameters as well as in-system reprogrammability. The new family targets HID devices, including keyboards, mice and wireless dongles.

"Over its 50-year lifetime, EDN has witnessed many distinguished achievements," said Maury Wright, editor-in-chief of EDN. "The awards provide an opportunity to recognize the rich talent in our industry. At the same time, these awards allow us to nurture the growth of engineering careers and the future of electronics through our annual donation to engineering education."

"We are honored to have two of our PC Peripheral products named in EDN's 100 Hot Products," said Steven Larky, managing director of Cypress's Personal Communications Business Unit. "Cypress is the market leader in USB and a growing force in the wireless connectivity space, and the success and recognition our technology earns reflects this. Our PRoC solution in particular has garnered an impressive collection of accolades, and we expect continued recognition as adoption of this 'hot' technology continues to increase."

Cypress's PC Peripheral market segment leverages its industry leading technology in USB, capacitive touch sensing, WirelessUSB, timing technology and memory.  These solutions offer manufacturers of PC peripherals the opportunity to consolidate vendors, integrating Cypress's feature-rich technology with a cost-effective BOM.

About Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip(TM) (PRoC(TM))
PRoC(TM) includes two of the Cypress's most noteworthy technologies - WirelessUSB and PSoC - in one integrated device. It offers access to a general-purpose mixed signal array with four programmable analog and four programmable digital blocks, 8K Bytes of Flash program memory storage, 512 Bytes of SRAM data storage, and a powerful Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) 2.4GHz radio system - all integrated in a compact, 48-pin QFN package. It is designed to implement highly-integrated, space-saving, low-cost, wireless systems operating in the worldwide 2.4-GHz ISM band.

About the enCoRe II Family of USB Microcontrollers
Based on Cypress's popular "M8" microcontroller architecture, the enCoRe II family of low-speed USB microcontrollers features a breakthrough crystalless oscillator. By integrating the oscillator on-chip, an external crystal or resonator is no longer needed. Cypress has also integrated other external components commonly found in low-speed USB applications, including pull-up resistors, wake-up circuitry, and a 3.3V regulator. This integration results in shorter development cycles and lower system costs.
