Last Updated: September 16, 2008

Company Raised to Third in Total Flash Memory Market Share

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept 16, 2008 -- Spansion Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSN), the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, today announced that iSuppli, a leading electronics research firm, has named Spansion(R) as the largest supplier of NOR flash memory for the eleventh consecutive quarter, in its Flash Memory Market Share Analysis report summarizing second quarter 2008 results. In the second quarter, Spansion significantly outgrew the overall NOR industry with 7.5 percent growth and reached nearly 40 percent share of the NOR flash memory segment. In addition, Spansion is now the third largest supplier in the overall Flash memory market rankings.

"Since the company's IPO in 2005, Spansion has continued to execute against its strategy to leverage MirrorBit technology to create differentiated solutions," said Mark DeVoss, senior analyst for iSuppli. "The strategy seems to be paying off, as we've seen Spansion increase their share, now at nearly 40 percent for NOR. With new technologies on the horizon such as the Spansion EcoRAM(TM) solution, and with sales of MirrorBit(R) ORNAND2(TM) technology the potential exists for Spansion to continue its share growth."

Spansion has been leveraging its proprietary MirrorBit technology to grow its market share. Based on Spansion estimates and iSuppli's market share data, MirrorBit solution sales alone represented 31% of the NOR Flash memory segment, larger than the NOR sales of the next largest competitor. In addition, Spansion's sales into consumer, set-top box, industrial and other non-wireless applications are now more than 2.5 times larger than its closest competitor in the NOR industry.

"We've overtaken our nearest competitor in overall flash memory market share and substantially extended our leading position in NOR flash memory, demonstrating the continued high demand for our products," said Jeff Davis, executive vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Spansion. "The significant jump in market share growth can be attributed to our laser focus on innovation and strategy to deliver differentiated, value-added solutions based on MirrorBit technology. The next 18 months will be very exciting times for the company as we continue to execute against our technology roadmap to deliver new, differentiated products at leading-edge nodes that redefine the Flash memory industry."

iSuppli releases quarterly reports ranking the top Flash memory providers by revenue. The firm's newest report, based on Q2 2008 revenue anticipates that the Flash memory market will continue to be one of the fastest growing semiconductor segments.
