Spansion Celebrates Official Opening of Security and Advanced Technology Division in Milan

Ceremony Unveils Plans for Highest Performance NAND Flash Memory

MILAN, Italy, Sept 02, 2008 -- Spansion Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSN), the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, today announced the official opening of its Security and Advanced Technology Division (SATD) headquarters in Agrate Brianza (Milan) with a ceremony for employees, customers, government and community officials. During the event, Spansion unveiled its upcoming MirrorBit(R) ORNAND2(TM) product family.

The SATD division, led by Carla Golla, executive vice president for Spansion, employs more than 55 leading scientists and experts in the field of silicon design, product development, product engineering, marketing and manufacturing control. The new facility is strategically located to leverage the pool of experienced research and development talent in the European population, and is in close proximity to Spansion's European customers, including some of the world's top handset, automotive, consumer electronics and other high technology manufacturers.

The Security and Advanced Technology Division, headquartered in Agrate Brianza (Milan), employs more than 55 leading scientists and experts in the field of silicon design, product development, product engineering, marketing and manufacturing control. The division was created to lead Spansion's efforts to develop differentiated Flash memory solutions and further expand the applicability of its MirrorBit(R) technology in the high-value embedded and wireless markets. SATD is also responsible for driving the strategic direction and deployment of Spansion secure memory solutions including the company's MirrorBit HD-SIM(TM) product family.

MirrorBit ORNAND2 Product family

With high performance and low cost, Spansion's differentiated MirrorBit(R) ORNAND2(TM) product family is in a unique position to address the increasing demands for data storage in wireless and embedded markets. Based on Spansion's proprietary MirrorBit charge-trapping technology, MirrorBit ORNAND2 features the NAND industry's smallest die size and is designed to support 25 percent faster write performance and up to twice the read performance than floating gate NAND. The technology also offers 25 percent fewer process steps than the first generation MirrorBit ORNAND and MirrorBit NOR solutions.
