Three Papers Detail MEMS Technology, Printing Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 26, 2004 - Silicon Light Machines (SLM), a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), today announced that it will present three technical papers in conjunction with Photonics West at the Hilton Hotel in San Jose, Calif. (Santa Clara I/II) on Monday, January 26, 2004.

During the MOEMS Display and Imaging Systems II conference, SLM experts will present papers on the following topics:

The company will also showcase the capabilities of its grating light valve(TM) (GLV(TM)) technology at Photonics West in booth #6402 (Parkside Hall) at the San JoseConvention Center.

The GLV device is an optical micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) with a variety of applications in the telecommunications and imaging industries. When used as a spatial light modulator in computer-to-plate (CTP) products, the device diffracts high power laser beams to provide a high-speed, ultra-precise method of transferring digital images directly onto a printing plate. With extremely fast switching speeds and accurate diffraction control, the GLV device creates a complete "swath" of writing beams on the plate surface - enabling CTP manufacturers to deliver products that offer faster platemaking performance and superior image quality.
