New 2.4 GHz Cypress WirelessUSB(TM) Development Kit Helps Video Game Device Makers 'Cut the Cord'
Solution Enables Fast Time-to-Market of Wireless Controllers For Major Video Game Console Systems
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 24, 2004 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today introduced a new development kit that enables developers of video game controllers and peripherals for gaming consoles to easily and affordably convert their devices to 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity. The WirelessUSB(TM) LS Gamepad Developers Kit (CY3633), used in conjunction with Cypress's standard WirelessUSB development kit (CY3632), includes all of the necessary connectors and firmware code needed to develop wireless game controllers quickly and easily.
"Wireless video game device makers are very interested in WirelessUSB, due to the technology's low latency and immunity to interference," said Rich Kapusta, director of wireless product marketing for Cypress's Personal Communications Division. "Gamers demand the high performance of a wired game controller without the cord. WirelessUSB delivers this performance, even in the presence of Wi-Fi networks and cordless phones. The WirelessUSB LS Gamepad Developers Kit provides everything gaming peripheral designers need to create the lowest cost, lowest latency and best performing controllers."
Cypress's WirelessUSB LS Gamepad Development Kit turns one development board into a gamepad and the other into a receiver. The kit provides code to implement bidirectional, wireless gaming support. Enabling more than 100 hours of continuous play, less than four milliseconds of latency, and an operating range of up to 10 meters or more, WirelessUSB is designed to meet the most rigorous challenges of any gaming profile. Operating in the 2.4 GHz global ISM band, WirelessUSB LS also allows customers to deploy their solutions worldwide, while other technologies are limited by regional frequency requirements. Early adopters of Cypress's WirelessUSB technology include Saitek, a leading manufacturer of video game peripherals.
