SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3, 2004 - SunPower Corporation, a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., today announced that it will be hosting a free public workshop on solar electricity for commercial and residential sites on Saturday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Co-sponsored by the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, this workshop will provide an overview of system design, performance and financial payback for anyone interested in installing a photovoltaic system.

About the Speakers

Dr. Richard Swanson is the founder, president and chief technical officer of SunPower Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance silicon solar cells. Dr. Swanson has extensive experience in the photovoltaic arena. During his tenure as a professor at Stanford, Dr. Swanson supervised 14 doctoral students who helped develop the point-contact solar cell, a 28-percent conversion efficiency concentrator cell in a laboratory version. Dr. Swanson received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering from Ohio State University and his Ph.D from Stanford University.

Andy J. Black is a sales engineer for REgrid Power, a solar electric design and installation firm. Mr. Black specializes in the financial payback of solar electricity systems. Mr. Black received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Penn University and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California. Andy is a board member and Treasurer for the NorCal Solar Energy Association and a board member for the American Solar Energy Society.

Kurt Newick works in sales and installation at Horizon Energy Systems. Mr. Newick is founder and chairman of the Global Warming & Energy Committee for the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club. Mr. Newick advocates solar electricity via free classes as a way to save property owners money and curb global warming. Mr. Newick lives in a solar electric home with self-installed solar-radiant heat and solar- hot water systems.
