Configurable CY2545 Clock Reduces BOM Costs For High-Performance ApeosPort-III and DocuCentre-III Families

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 18, 2008 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd. has selected Cypress's spread spectrum clock generator for its multifunction devices that print, copy, scan, fax and more. The 4-PLL (phase-locked loop) CY2545 clock generator uses the spread-spectrum PLLs to reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI) emissions in Fuji Xerox's ApeosPort-III and DocuCentre-III C3300/C2200. The clock helped Fuji Xerox cut BOM cost for the devices by eliminating the need for shielding, ferrite beads or chokes often used to address EMI issues.

The ApeosPort-III and DocuCentre-III multifunction devices provide middle-range office performance and enhanced security features for better document management. The devices reliably handle the output volume needed for a document intensive environment and deliver true-to-life image quality with 1200 x 2400 dpi print resolution. The devices benefit from the flexible CY2545 clock's two-wire I2C programming, which allowed Fuji Xerox to dynamically adjust EMI reduction variables for real-time determination of optimum system configuration. "EMI poses a significant threat to the performance of our multifunction devices, and Cypress's configurable spread spectrum solution delivers a flexible, effective EMI-reduction solution," said Shinho Ikeda of the Controller Development Group at Fuji Xerox. "Additionally, Cypress offered excellent evaluation and design support to help cut our time-to-market."

"We are pleased to have an industry-leading customer like Fuji Xerox implement our programmable spread spectrum timing solutions," said David Kranzler, Vice President of the Timing Solutions Business Unit at Cypress. "These multifunction office devices are a perfect example of how our solutions can reduce EMI to comply with regulatory agency requirements while also cutting BOM costs."

The CY2545 clock generator meets critical timing performance, voltage and power requirements for computing, networking and consumer electronics systems, including multifunction printers, HDTV, STB, DVD-R, high definition projectors and portable navigation systems. The clock offers three frequency-select pins to allow users to specify up to nine frequency outputs in the range of 3 to 166 MHz, based on application need. This allows customers to use the same device on every platform, easing ordering and record keeping, and reducing risk of excess or bad inventory. The device also offers four different output voltage options - 3.3, 3.0, 2.5 and 1.8V.
