Cypress's Automotive Camera Module Named 2005 Top Product Of The Year For Digital Imaging By Automotive Engineering International Magazine

Editors Highlight ACM100-1 Camera's Intelligent Adaptability to Various Lighting Conditions
For Use across Multiple Safety Applications in Automobiles

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 27, 2006 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced its CMOS monochrome camera module has earned recognition as Automotive Engineering International's 2005 top product of the year for the Digital Imaging category.  The ACM100-1 camera consists of an image sensor, an image processor, lens, durable casing and cable assembly for automotive applications such as night vision, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning systems, collision mitigation, driver drowsiness monitoring and pedestrian detection.

The ACM100-1 was introduced by SMaL Camera Technologies, which Cypress acquired in February 2005. The camera delivers superior image quality in any lighting condition, improving the performance of applications and algorithms that rely on the quality of video. Cypress's Autobrite® adaptive wide dynamic range technology is the industry's widest at up to 120 dB, 1000-times greater than a standard CMOS or CCD camera, for optimal performance in varied lighting. In addition, the ACM100-1's near-infrared (IR) sensitivity and exceptional low light sensitivity enhance data capture at night, contributing to overall safety system performance.

"Automotive Engineering International congratulates Cypress Semiconductor Corporation on achieving one of the top products of 2005," said Kevin Jost, editorial director of Automotive Engineering International.  "Their innovation has earned the respect and recognition of our readers and editors."

"We are very gratified that the efforts of our ACM100-1 development team have been recognized by the editors at Automotive Engineering International," said David Zimpfer, director of Cypress's Automotive Business Unit. "The camera is an important part of our strong product offering for the automotive market segment, which also includes PSoC® (Programmable System-on-Chip™) mixed-signal arrays, memories, timing devices and USB microcontrollers."

The ACM100-1 includes a VGA 1/3-inch monochrome CMOS imager. Internal 12-bit image correction, exposure control and post-processing ensure data integrity. The camera produces a quality image over a temperature range of -40 C to 85 C, a feature unmatched by other automotive cameras. The camera module is configurable and programmable so that it can be optimized for multiple applications. The ACM100-1 has several output and optics options and includes a range of camera settings. This flexibility means that system makers can use one technology for a wide range of safety and convenience applications, increasing unit volume and thereby reducing cost while improving supply chain management and time to market.
