Cypress Ships 50 Millionth Lead-Free Product

Lead-Free Package Shipments Meet RoHS Requirements

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 1, 2005 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced it has shipped over 50 million lead-free components. Demand for its products using nickel-palladium-gold frame technology is expected to increase as customers continue to qualify its lead-free components.

"Cypress's migration to backwards-compatible lead-free packaging using nickel-palladium-gold frame technology, enables customers to efficiently transition to lead-free platforms without compromising performance, quality, or delivery," said Bob Blazer, vice president of assembly and test operations at Cypress. "We are committed to a 100 percent lead-free product line and supporting customer adoption of environmentally friendly products across the industry."

The move to lead-free semiconductor products is a significant industrywide initiative. Cypress is working closely with customers, industry organizations and the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation to eliminate not only lead, but also all six RoHS-banned substances from its products. Cypress's lead-free products currently meet RoHS requirements, well ahead of the RoHS-mandated timeline of July 2006.

Cypress has been shipping lead-free components since 2003 and is now offering lead-free packaging for all new integrated circuit (IC) products with the exception of flip chip products. Cypress is also working closely with customers developing and qualifying their own lead-free processes and products while continuing to ship standard (non-lead-free) components to customers whose lead-free processes and products are still under development.
