Presentation to Challenge Assumption that Green Manufacturing is More Expensive than Legacy Manufacturing Processes

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 3, 2006 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), today announced that its manufacturing director, John Quist, will address managing the costs of transitioning to green manufacturing at the IPC/JEDEC 12th International Conference on Lead-Free Electronic Components and Assemblies to be held at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., local time.

Quist's presentation, "Attacking the Myth that Green Manufacturing is More Expensive," will discuss how green products are currently being manufactured at costs equal to or lower than standard products. Using industry examples and benchmarking data, Quist will demonstrate how standard cost reduction plans can offset potential increases in "green" materials costs, resulting in overall lower costs for "green" products.

On July 1, 2006, the European Union (EU) will restrict the use of environmentally hazardous materials in electronic components and systems. Under the EU's Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, hundreds of thousands of products currently produced could become obsolete, forcing semiconductor and other electronics manufacturers to re-design their products to remove certain toxic materials. Companies not in compliance will not be able to sell their products into EU countries.
