Cypress OvationONS™ Laser Navigation Sensor Delivers Industry Leading Customization And Performance To SteelSeries Ikari Gaming Mouse
High-Precision, Flexible Sensor Enables Mouse to Earn Perfect 10s in Reviews
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 5, 2008 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that SteelSeries, a leading manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear, has selected its OvationONS™ laser navigation sensor to power the new Ikari Laser professional gaming mouse. The OvationONS solution enables the mouse to deliver unmatched speed, accuracy and flexibility. The Ikari mouse recently received scores of 10 out of 10 from the hardware review websites www.bit-tech.net and www.TrustedReviews.com.
The SteelSeries Ikari Laser mouse features programmable macros and custom settings designed to increase the number of actions a user can complete while playing a game. The OvationONS sensor enables users to adjust the mouse's sensitivity incrementally for extreme accuracy. The mouse can also be programmed by users with one setting for basic applications and a second for advanced gaming, and it remembers the settings without the need to install specific drivers. SteelSeries FreeMove™ technology, based on the OvationONS sensor, allows users to adjust how precisely the Ikari Laser mouse will reproduce the hand's movement versus how much the mouse will automatically correct it.
"SteelSeries worked closely with the gaming community and Cypress to deliver a mouse with new features such as FreeMove that give gamers a competitive edge," said Tino Soelberg, vice president of Research and Development at SteelSeries. "Cypress's OvationONS sensor offers the performance and flexibility that serious gamers demand, all in a small package that lends to creative, ergonomic designs."
"We are pleased to see the SteelSeries Ikari mouse earning recognition for its outstanding performance and design," said Shuo Zhang, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Cypress's Optical Navigation Operation. "Our OvationONS laser navigation sensor enables innovators such as SteelSeries to push the boundaries of gaming mouse performance and provide unique features."
"At SteelSeries we understand that the gaming community is looking for the best in every aspect of the products they buy," said Bruce Hawver, CEO at SteelSeries. "Our work on the Ikari mouse with Cypress is another example where SteelSeries collaborated with an innovative technology leader to deliver a product that redefines its segment of the gaming market. We look forward to continuing cooperation with innovators like Cypress."
About OvationONS sensors
The OvationONS sensor integrates the detector and laser in a compact 8 mm x 8 mm QFN package with a simple snap-on lens design. The simple two-piece device has built-in laser eye safety management, eliminating the need for laser power calibration during mouse assembly to reduce manufacturing cost. The technology's signal-processing load is independent of mouse speed; OvationONS sensors can simultaneously support full speed (50 inches per second) and full resolution (2800 counts-per-inch), maximizing the counts-per-second recorded by the mouse and avoiding the "deceleration" effect that hampers many sensors on the market today. In addition, OptiCheck uses a position-sampling rate as high as 40 kHz, allowing the OvationONS sensor to have instant response to changes in tracking direction or speed with significantly reduced latency.
The OvationONS sensor family features Cypress's patented OptiCheck™ technology for a fundamentally different approach from traditional image capture/correlation techniques. OptiCheck uses a detection scheme that streamlines the signal-processing requirements, maximizing performance and reducing the sensor's power consumption, which is ideal for wireless gaming mice.
