Cypress Obtains 1,000th Patent

Milestone Underscores a History of Corporate Innovation and Invention

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 9, 2004 - Cypress S emiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that it received its 1,000th patent. Cypress's 1,000th patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,697,385, is a circuit design that enables a small, flexible, cost-effective repeater in local area networks (LANs).

Cypress patents have been used in a variety of products and applications, including cell phones, cameras, printers, scanners, games, personal computers and networking equipment. Cypress's received its first patent in 1982. Its most prolific inventor, Babar Raza, has been granted 40 patents during his career. Even Cypress's CEO, T.J. Rodgers, has been granted five patents.

"A semiconductor company invests a huge amount in its inventions, and its management must protect its intellectual property," said T.J. Rodgers, Cypress president and CEO. "This year we spent $250 million on research and investment to finally get to the 1,000-patent mark."
