Pre-Matched Crystal Saves Design Time and Cost; Small Package Saves Board Space

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 6, 2006 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), a world leader in timing-technology solutions, today introduced a new package option for its CY25701 programmable Spread Spectrum Crystal Oscillator (SSXO) with a high-accuracy reference crystal in a single package.  Cypress is now offering the device in an industry-standard 5.0 x 3.2 mm ceramic LCC package (CY25701LXC), the smallest available for products of this kind. The new package option also provides the industry-standard pinout for easy drop-in replacement of other oscillators.

The onboard crystal in the CY25701LXC has been specified, designed, and tested to operate with Cypress's feature-rich, programmable Peak Reducing EMI Solutions (PREMIS™) Spread Spectrum chip. With a pre-matched oscillator and crystal, designers are assured of efficient operation, and can eliminate difficult-to-use, higher-order crystals or crystal oscillators. In addition, the frequency programmability of the SSXO enables designers to set a wide range of spread percentages for maximum electromagnetic interference (EMI) reduction. 

"The CY25701LXC offers the industry's best solution for combining programmable frequency control and EMI reduction, saving users design time and costs," said Cavit Ozdalga, product marketing manager for Cypress's Consumer and Computation Division.  "With the industry-standard, small footprint ceramic LCC package, customers can now also save board space."

The CY25701LXC SSXO offers a wide, programmable operating output frequency range, enabling designers to program the clock frequency from 10 to 166 MHz.  In order to meet regulatory agency electromagnetic compliance requirements, the programmable Spread Spectrum feature provides a wide range of down- or center-spread percentages (0.5 to 4.0%) for maximum EMI reduction.  Depending on the application, the CY25701 provides up to a 20 dB EMI reduction, based on a worst-case harmonic.

The CY25701 is an extension of Cypress's current line of programmable EMI reduction clocks including the highly successful multiple-output CY25100 and CY25200, which, unlike the CY25701, require an external crystal.
