Cypress and Tokyo Electron Device (TED) Announce New Distribution Partnership in Japan
TED Brings Excellent Track Record in Japan’s Programmable Market; Strong Relationships with Industrial Customers
SAN JOSE, Calif. and YOKOHAMA, Japan, October 8, 2012 – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) and Tokyo Electron Device Limited (TED) today announced an agreement whereby TED will become a distribution partner of Cypress. The agreement, effective October 8, 2012, includes the entire Cypress product line, including PSoC® Programmable System-on-Chip devices, touch-sensing solutions, SRAMs, USB controllers, and more.
TED has a unique business model of creating reference designs and providing specialized design services under its “inrevium” brand. This model has allowed TED to achieve outstanding success in the Japanese programmable device market as a distributor of FPGAs. The company has been responsible for wide proliferation of programmable devices in numerous segments, including industrial, medical, and energy. Earlier this year, TED and Cypress jointly developed a USB 3.0 device interface card under the inrevium brand.
“TED is an outstanding partner for Cypress, with complementary skill sets that we expect will propel expanded PSoC adoption,” said Kazuyoshi “Kazu” Yamada, Cypress Japan Country Manager. “We have already seen first-hand how well the TED business model works, and we are excited to work with TED to serve the Japanese market.”
“PSoC is a unique offering that has limitless potential for numerous applications and customers,” said Yasuyuki Kuriki, President of Tokyo Electron Device Limited. “Our experience and numerous relationships throughout multiple market segments in Japan position us to immediately start to grow Cypress’s business in Japan. In addition, we’re pleased to be able to offer Cypress’s market-leading SRAM, USB and touch-sensing products to our customers. We’re eager to begin working with Cypress.”
“The inrevium business model is very attractive to Cypress,” said Geoff Charubin, Cypress Vice-President of Worldwide Distribution. “We’re impressed with TED’s demand creation ability, and we believe that highly technical distribution partners are the new standard for Cypress, particularly with our programmable product lines.”
