PSoC® 3, PSoC 4, and PSoC 5LP AN Project File Naming Convention and Use – KBA84803

Last Updated: May 15, 2014

What do the naming conventions in PSoC® 3, PSoC 4, and PSoC 5LP application note (AN) project files mean? How do you select a device and a device revision in PSoC Creator™?

Understanding naming conventions:

Application notes are updated when a new silicon version or a new version of PSoC Creator is released. The silicon version and software version supported for a particular application note are specified along with the zip file of the corresponding project. See Figure 1 for an example.

Figure 1. Application Note and Project Files

App Note files

In Figure 1, the first zip file ( contains the project for AN57473, which is designed using PSoC Creator 3.0 and supports PSoC 3 and PSoC 5LP devices for production. The second zip file ( contains projects for AN57473, which were designed using previous versions of PSoC Creator software. This supports only PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 devices.

Table 1 indicates the PSoC devices, PSoC Creator versions, compilers, and development kits that will work with this application note project:

Selecting a device and device revision:

Go to Project > Device Selector in PSoC Creator. If you are using a PSoC 3 device (such as CY8C3866AXI-040) with production revision, then use the selection shown in Figure 2.

Similarly, select the appropriate device number to work with the PSoC 4 device family (CY8C4245AXI-483) and the PSoC 5LP family (for example, CY8C5868AXI-LP035).
