NOP cycle in Cypress Dual-Ports

Last Updated: October 11, 2011

- What is the NOP cycle in the Read Write Read waveform in dual-ports?

- What does NOP stand for?

Whenever you transition from a read cycle to a write cycle, a no operation cycle (NOP) is required before you transition to the write cycle to prevent contention on the data bus. The reason for this is that there is latency when driving data onto the data bus (from a read operation) and the data bus must switch directions in order to write new data into the memory.
