Message while Programming PSoC® 4: “This device was recognized, but PSoC Creator™ does not support using it at this time.” – KBA89543
What do you do about the following error, which appears when you try to program the PSoC® 4 after erasing its flash?
“This device was recognized, but PSoC Creator™ does not support using it at this time.”
The workarounds are to click Port Acquire (details to follow) or launch PSoC Programmer™ directly from the Start menu.
Because of a bug in PSoC Creator, when using the blank, internal flash of PSoC 4, it sometimes will have trouble initially reading the silicon ID of the PSoC 4 parts. This can happen in the following situations:
- The flash is erased using PSoC Programmer.
- The flash is empty (new device).
The error most likely occurs after the power to the PSoC is switched off and on.
When the PSoC Programmer invoked by PSoC Creator does not acquire the port automatically, then you will see a Select Debug Target window opened, as in Figure 1:
The workaround is to click Port Acquire, as shown in Figure 2, and connect again.
Once the Port Acquire is set, then the issue will not be seen again unless the flash is completely erased.
You also can avoid the error by launching PSoC Programmer directly from the Start menu (see Figure 3).
This bug will be solved in PSoC Creator 3.1.
