Materials used for capacitive sensing

Last Updated: December 01, 2010

What all are the materials that can be used for implementing capacitive sensors?

The sensor patterns for CapSense needs to be conductive. The type of material that the sensor is made from is not important. Common conductors in CapSense applications include copper, ITO, and silver ink. The resistance of the conductor however plays an important role in the selection of the CapSense parameters. If the sensor material's resistance is high, eg ITO, then A PreScaler might need to be used to slow down the frequency in the CSD User Module for Capsense to facilitate optimum performance. For more details on prescalar, refer to the CSD User module datasheet in PSoC Designer.
