External power use with CY30701

Last Updated: December 28, 2011

On clock product evaluation "candy" boards, if the +5V is supplied to the board directly via an external supply, does the board need to be connected to the USB port on a computer? Will connecting both the USB port and an external supply damage the port/board?

You can power up the candy board by using either an external power supply connected to the +5V and Gnd pins on the board or by connecting it to a computer USB port; however, when using an external power supply, do not connect the board to the USB port as this may damage both your computer and the candy board. Note that the USB port must be connected to the board to initiate programming or I2C data transfer to the device.
