The CY36800 InstaClock Universal Programmable Clock Generator Programming Kit contains the programming board with a USB cable, and 3 samples each of the CY22800 and CY22801 devices. You can order more samples of either CY22800 or CY22801 Online. The latest programming software is available to download from www.cypress.com/instaclock.

When using the CY22800 and InstaClock software, users can select from a list of over 100 different predefined configurations of commonly used frequencies in today's designs.  The CY22801 enables users to generate custom clock configurations that are not supported by the CY22800.  The CyberClocks software tool allows users to specify the XIN/CLKIN frequency, crystal load capacitance, and output frequencies for the CY22801.

Both the CY22800 and CY22801 devices are programmed through the same programming board included in this kit.  The selected configuration is then downloaded via USB to the programmer in a matter of moments.  Production quantities are easily supported by Cypress' distribution partners.  Simply provide your local distributor with the JEDEC code generated by the software.

Four Configurable PLLs

The CY2545 and CY2547 have four I2C programmable PLLs available to generate output frequencies ranging from 3 to 166 MHz. The advantage of having four PLLs is that a single device generates up to four independent frequencies from a single crystal. Two sets of frequencies for each PLL can be programmed. This enables in system frequency switching using multifunction frequency select pin, FS.

Functional Description

The devices use a Cypress proprietary phase-locked loop (PLL) and Spread Spectrum Clock (SSC) technology to synthesize and modulate the frequency of the input clock. By frequency modulating the clock, the measured EMI at the fundamental and harmonic frequencies is greatly reduced.

Functional Description

CY2037 is an EPROM-programmable, high accuracy, PLL-based die designed for the crystal oscillator market. The die attaches directly to a low cost 10 to 30 MHz crystal and can be packaged into a 4-pin through-hole or surface mount packages. The oscillator devices may be stocked as blank parts and custom frequencies programmed in-package at the last stage before shipping. This enables fast-turn manufacture of custom and standard crystal oscillators without the need for dedicated, expensive crystals.

Programming Times of the CY2XF23 http://www.cypress.com/?rID=39989 The CY2XF23 is a One Time Programmable (OTP) device and cannot be re-programmed after being programmed once.

The CY2XF23 has an I2C interface which can be used to change the output frequency, but this is different from "programming" because I2C changes are lost when power is removed.   The I2C interface is not used to program or reprogram the device memory. The I2C is used for frequency margining where we change the settings already programmed as per the truth table.


Part numbers beginning with CY2XF23FLX are field programmable devices.  They are unprogrammed when shipped.  The user may program them once, using a programmer such as the CY3675 CyClockMaker.

Part numbers beginning with CY2XF23LX are factory programmed devices.  They are programmed by Cypress prior to shipping, and cannot be reprogrammed afterwards.

The non-volatile memory registers of our CY22150 devices can be re-programmed at the factory only. Please contact your FAE or Local Sales Representative for any factory programming assistance.

 

As these devices have SDAT and SCLK pins for I2C programming, you have an option to re-program only the volatile memory registers of the factory programmed devices In-system. This means that when you Power-On the device, it will run with the Power On factory programmed configuration which is present in the non-volatile memory registers. Later, you can change the configuration by making changes to the volatile memory registers using I2C. Now, this change will last as long as the device is powered. The new configuration will be lost once the device is powered down and the next time when it is Powered-ON, it will have the factory programmed configuration.

Hardware -- The CY3670 programmer or programmers from qualified vendors such as BP Microsystems.
Software -- CyberClocks, included with the programmer.

Designers can download CyberClocks from the Cypress website. CyClocksRT, contained within CyberClocks, will generate a JEDEC file which contains all the configuration information. The JEDEC file can then be loaded into the hardware programmer.
