Designing PSoC Creator Components with UDB Datapaths
One of the most unique and powerful features of PSoC 3, PSoC 5 LP and PSoC 4 is the Universal Digital Block (UDB). UDBs include programmable logic similar to PLDs, and a structured logic unit called a datapath. By using these two features together custom digital peripheral can be created. For example, most digital function blocks in PSoC are created using UDBs, this includes timers, counters, PWMs, I2C, SPI, UART, etc.
The UDBs can also be used to create complex and unique functions that can be used to offload the CPU, or to make a design more deterministic by using hardware instead of firmware. To make designing with these UDBs easier Cypress has released a UDB Editor tool inside of PSoC Creator, to go along with this new tool AN82156 Designing PSoC Creator Components with UDB Datapaths has been updated to use the UDB Editor. With the functionality of the UDB, and the new easy to use tool creating new digital components has never been easier.
