Scout Camp memories
July 08, 2010
Summer means camp. And for boys around twelve, like my son now is, this last week meant Boy Scout camp.
Being the involved father, I was part of the caravan that drove a small mob of these young and intrepid scouters to one of the scouting Mecca’s in the high mountains not too far from Yosemite in California. I stayed a couple days to help with setup and get the 1st year scouts off to a reasonable start on their goals of earning merit badges and learning to handle canoes, rifles, fires, bears, and anything else that might come up.
There is nothing like a few days in the high forest surrounded by naïve and bubbling young minds to remind me of all that is right with our wonderful world. The songs have changed (more raps now), but the skits have not. (I saw a skit on Echo Canyon that I did back when I was twelve.)
Also, I am most pleased to report that even Cypress nvSRAM made it to camp this year. There was an adult on staff that was using a blood analyzer for his ongoing sugar monitoring. We have nvSRAM in wound closure systems, blood analyzers, and various portable medical monitoring devices; applications where the loss of a datalog or measurement history can be disconcerting if not dangerous.
Until next trip. Grant
