What I really like about the English System of Measures is that it is easy to solve real world mechanical problems. Mechanical Engineering was invented in Great Britian.
A rider on an e-bike (300 lbs total) going 15mph (22ft/sec & 6,600 ft-lbs/sec) up a 3% grade (198 ft lbs/sec) requires an extra (198/550) 3/8 Hp. (1 Hp = 550 ft-lbs/sec)
I once had someone tell me about this cool fountain that popped a blob into the air. He wanted to how much pressure it took. I asked how high the water went and he said about 10ft. I said you a pressure head of 10 ft. At ½psi per ft of head, 10ft of head would be 5psi.
