Dynamic Reconfiguration | Cypress Semiconductor
December 20, 2010
This was popular feature with PSoC1 and Designer. It was not uncommon for our customers to use 12 of the eight digital blocks. It has not been continued into Creator and PSoC3/5. This is because no one has figured out how to do it. I propose that it be done at the module level. It would require adding the element of time to the module. Creator would then have a definable time map that would allow the user to break the project into discrete time periods. The fitter inside Creator would have to get more powerful to route a project with this new parameter.
Of course modules have terminals instead of pins, so pins may not be reconfigurable. Presently some of the young apps guys have been experimenting with reconfiguring by forcing registers. We called that “Rolling Your Own” and this is what we did in PSoC1 until the tools team had to admit that dynamic reconfiguration was a useful feature.
This is your chance to have an input into our tools. What I like about PSoC is that no one has done it become and we really don’t know what we are doing. Conventional tools make no sense so it is trail and error. So if you make new rules you make new tools.
