Project #034: RGB LED Control Over Bluetooth Low Energy
In today's project, we demonstrate how to control high-brightness RGB LEDs over Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth Smart).
PSoC 4 BLE is used to implement a hardware lighting controller. This is done using the PRiSM Component, a Precision Illumination Signal Modulation technique for flicker-free control of color and brightness with PSoC's universal digital hardware blocks. Learn more about PRiSM in the Component Datasheet and this Application Note.
For wireless control of the LEDs, the BLE Component is configured as a GATT Server device that connects as a peripheral to a mobile phone or other GATT Client device. A custom Service with 4-bytes for R, G, B and Intensity control is added. You can use the CySmart USB Dongle (included with the BLE Pioneer Kit) or the CySmart mobile app for Android/iOS to control the LEDs connected to the BLE Pioneer Kit.
