OVERVIEW
LCD Drive is a new feature being introduced with the PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 families. Whereas PSoC 1 devices could only control (or within limited parameters drive) an LCD and thus required an external driver chip, PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 devices can drive an LCD without an external MCU. PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 devices provide single-chip solutions that contain superior and flexible LCD drivers with integrated analog capability.
With PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 LCD Drive Solutions, you can: Drive Up to 16 Commons - Drive complex displays without an external driver
- Drive simple displays with fewer pins
- More pins for peripheral integration
Use PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 Internal Voltage Generator - No need for external resistors or capacitors
- Drive LCDs anywhere in industry-leading 0.5V-5.5V range
Configure LCD Pin Locations - Shorter traces
- Fewer PCB layers
Implement High Level APIs
Easily Debug your Application
Drive Multiple LCDs with one PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 Device - Plenty of commons, segments, and I/Os to drive multiple displays
- Add more product functionality; reduce even more BOM
Configure your LCD with PSoC Creator Software’s Simple GUI
Drive vs. Control Control of an LCD is different than driving an LCD because driving requires specific waveforms. Since PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 devices can create these waveforms using an analog multiplexer, they can now drive LCDs standalone.
This new LCD drive feature makes PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 devices a good fit for applications requiring an LCD because PSoC 3 / PSoC 5 devices now integrate what was a two-chip solution onto a single chip. This means lower BOM costs and higher peripheral integration for the customer.
