HOTLink Multi-byte Framer White Paper

Last Updated: 04/07/2010

Cypress's entire line of HOTLink(R) backplane physical layer (PHY) devices implement a unique function called multi-byte framing.  This feature helps HOTLink PHYs protect against false framing in a non-standards-compliant system where there is a possibility that bits can be flipped during transmission. This white paper describes how byte flipping due to noise can affect byte framing in a SERDES and how multi-byte framing can help mitigate this.
