The best way to avoid current or voltage spikes while turning off a DAC is to use the DAC bus, and through hardware write a 0 to the DAC to turn it off, and a non-zero value to turn it on. Alternately, the DAC may be turned off by writing a 0 to the DAC register in firmware.
