PSoC 3 has been officially released and I am excited about it. Frankly I am impressed with the new development tool, “Creator”. I am told it is actually an “Integrated Design Environment” but that’s a mouth full. I must admit the tools team is getting better with each iteration of the tools. They included an installer that will ping you when updates are available. No longer do you have to go check for new service packs and decide which ones you have already loaded. We also supply a free compiler “Keil”. The PSoC 3 uses an 8051 instead of an M8C. We did this to allow us greater access to industry standard tools. I rarely have had cases where Creator does not easily install. The only problem has been getting the compiler to work if you already have a Kiel compiler for a different micro. (Since I wouldn’t have anybody else’s tools on my machine I have not have any problems.) Apparently the solution is to register the compiler through “Keil Microvision” instead of Creator. I am finding that the new Aps Engineer working here are naturally drawn to Creator and PSoC 3. Creator is free, the compiler is free, and training is free. So go get the tools at Cypress.com. Tell them Dave sent you!
