Dave's Corner: The Dave Van Ess Blog

For the last 34 years my professional life has been directed by Maxwell’s four little equations (Actually Maxwell had 24 equations in non vector form.  Oliver Heaviside reduced them down to four!)

I have reduced my last 11 professional years into a single equation.  For lack of a better name I called it.  “The Greatest Equation Ever!” or "The PSoC Equation" for short. It is:

There are over 3500 thousand Cypress Employees and the most important nine or so, of them reside in Lynnwood Washington. I am talking about the PSoC Core Applications group. These guys are the ones that know PSoC3 and PSoC5, inside and out. This means analog, digital, and software. (Takes two years to train them)  They are figuring out how to get the most out of PSOC.  System limitations? Well they find work arounds.  Tool limitations? They write their own!  Of course this does not always sit well with other groups in the company that think they control PSoC direction.   Of course they don’t care because they are Core guys that solve the tough problems.  The upside is that that the customers and FAEs love them.  I and not sure what the next great thing will be for PSoC.  I know it will start with someone asking one of the core guys,  "Can we do that?. I am very grateful that I am 30 years in experience and 6 rungs of the technical ladder away from having to directly competing with them. I have seen many great technical advances in my career and PSoC will be my last great thing. I am envious that these guys are starting their careers with PSoC and they get to see where PSoC goes in the next 30 years. Great work guys!  Good luck with the focals!!!!

I went out to vist a customer that wanted to build a 5 lead ECG with PSoC3.  He figured he would need 14 op amps. I used two.

It exploits the ADCs resolution and filtering to allow a DC coupled front end.  Of course some MOVs or HV protection will be needed.

A while back I had a run in with a disgruntled Greek reader.  That got me reading some Greek history and I became enlightened. Here is the results.
PSoC is a whole new way of thinking about design so I have developed to new term fto match:

PSoCratic Method

It is defined as a series of reconfigurable blocks assembled in such a fashion to achieve a higher understanding. Be it a greater truth or a better mouse trap the PSoCratic method will guide you there.

I would like to thank the Greek people for 95% of the words used in this post!

We have a new slogan it goes

    MCUs CAN'T
     PSoC CAN!

Of course I can't leave well enough alone. Here is my take on it!

     MCUs CAN'T
   PSoC CAN WILL!

Let me know why you like PSoC and the best response will get a new -030 development board (worth $99)
