External XTAL on PSoC 5 FirstTouch Starter kit CY8CKIT-014

Hi

I'm working on a audio project using the I2S bus which has to run on a external XTAL but is it possible to mount a XTAL on a CY8CKIT-014 kit? I have seen additional App.notes about the subject but no one seem to consider the CY8CKIT-014 kit.

Thanks

Simon Skov

Plainly: No! When you compile an example - project on a -14 kit, there is a note telling you that the board uses x-tal pins for I/O (I think the accellerometer is connected to those) and that this will not be allowed for future releases of the PSoC5. This seemingly announces that the two pins to connect a crystal to are alredy used on the board.

Let me offer you my version.
I have this working for a long time.
I hope everything is clear without translation.

You could always hack the board to do it, then restore hack after you

have done by cutting traces and adding pins to jumper. Pins could be

added at accelerometer pads to give support, while cutting or lifting the

lead on the accelerometer.

Hey, I have a good idea. Do you know KIT-014 already have a xtal?. Yes, the USB mcu, 68013 have a xtal of 24MHz on the board. You can use it if the frequency is OK. I've using it by hacking the point that capture the oscillation. But I just forget the detail now. If you want to know, I would be find it and tell you how to do. Thank you.

I checked 68013. Contact CLKOUT has a frequency 48MHz. XTAL may not be greater than 25 MHz.
But you can deceive Configure System Clocks and assign Freq: 24 MHz. This will work.
But my mom said that the cheat  (too often) is not good :))))

I dont have a -14 kit  to test. But if Pavloven is right about the CY7C68013A output a 48MHz clock on clkout, then it can be wired to a IO pin  and then used as a 48MHz digital signal source for the IMO.

attacked pic to show it

In the previous picture I forgot to select the  "Digital signal" option in the IMO, but you get te idea

OK, Your mom is right. You can see the CLKOUT was output on TP1, TV1. TV1 can wired and capture by [P5-7] for example. It is proximity sensor. Yeas, It is 48MHz but you can divide into 24MHz by T-Flip-Flop in the PSoC. And it can output onto [P3-0], its a side of Xtal-In [P15-1]. So you make bridge between these. That is my ideal and doing on KIT-014, useful for PSoC own USB. Thank you.

Variant with an external frequency to 40 MHz I have worked:

But if I connect P5[7] and TP2 (CLKOUT) is not working....

I saw this article for the first time. Doesn't work? I think only the configuration of pin[5-7] is related with this. My setting is here ------------------------------- [Type TAB] Digital Input / HW Connection [General TAB] High Inpedance [Input TAB] Threshold: CMOS or LVTI, Interrupt:None, Input Buffer Enabled, Sync MOde: Transparent -------------------------------- Try it.

OK. All works. I forgot to install: Sync MOde: Transparent
I will Add this to my site, if you don't mind.
