Using CY8CKIT-050 to program/debug project on own design.

If we made our own PCB and with a PSOC5 sample ( not the same as the one on the kit) , Is it possible to program/debug it using the -050 kit or we have to purchase minProg 3 to  do this?

Theoretically it should be possible - but you would need to separate the -050 programmer part from the PSoC on the board. When you look at the schematic, there are 4 lines used: XRES, SWDIO, SWDCK, SWO. They are also routed to the JTAG connector (J3) on the board, so they are accessible externally. I would recommend buying a MiniProg3, since it also is much faster (or a -001 kit, which includes one).

Isn't the ISSP interface running for PSoC 5 as well? That would ony require a Miniprog, thoug I'm not for scratching money for equipment

And will you not design for a bootloader and bootloading interface?

Having the opportunity to connect a PC (SWD <--> Miniprog 3 <--> USB <--> PC) to your board during prototyping phase at least can make your life a lot easier. The costs are not zero: The needed pins for the interface can be costly when short of pins and the connector needs space and wires but the SWD can be used as the initial programming interface.

I would go for SWD and Miniprog3

 Thanks all,

Would like to see the miniprog3 be aviable in the reward program.  I got the credits but more interest in getting some development tools.

Yes, many of us share that idea. Cypress told me that it is "only" a matter of "which department will pay" and they didn't have come to an agreement yet. Something that sounds rather common to me when dealing with companies big enough.

But aren't you on the "winner's list" for a Kit? Ask for a kit-001 and you'll get a Miniprog3 coming with that...

I think I am :-), but not sure if they will send me the 001 kit as it is more expensive. :-(

Not that I think Cypress doesn't want to give the kits away.  I mean I understant that there are budget limit in every company :-)

It is not completely free - for being a top 50 contributor in June I got a coupon for a free -001, but I need to pay shipping for it.

Seen another way the kit is completey free, but you have to pay a 3'rd

party to lug it to you. Very generous policy.

I just received a "Pimp Kit" from Dave van Ess and the the shipping was free, the only problem I had was to explain to my wife what the meaning of "pimp" was in this context...

I got a mail from Cypress last week, and they asked which kit I would like to have. Maybe they overlooked you because you are always in the first place of the posting statistics :) The coupon arrived yesterday in mail inbox.

The coupon can be used with the cypress store only, and it works only for the specific kit.

If you want to do analog stuff, go for either the -050 or the 030 (it will deliver better quality). Otherwise the -001 will give you 3 different boards to play with. You can even try to use them as standalone module (you just need to add some connectors). The specs and the features of the kits are otherwise more or less the same.

The 001B does NOT have an accelerometer/gyro on it. Same is true of the 030.

Well, and?

If you can get hands on one of the PSoC 5 FirstTouch Kits from a distributor's stock you may get them cheap. Though obsolete, they will run.

Another option is to get 3 axis accelaromer module in ebay, some cost less than $10.

CY8CKIT-030/050 can be used for programming devices on external boards if you change the connection line /RESET.
My version you can see in the picture attached below.
