miniprog3 driver for windows 7

so I am a university student in computer engineering who has been fascinated with PSoC ever since I saw what they can do at X-Fest. So myself along with a few classmates and professor all just bought the CY8CKIT-001 dev board. Also also just upgraded to windows 7.

I spent about 4 hours day trying to get the miniprog3 to work on windows and find some kind of driver that would work. Well I found that it installs just fine under my windows xp virtual machine, and the programmer release notes say that there are xp and vista drivers. I really hate running stuff on my virtual machine.

Can you please release a miniprog3 driver for windows 7 ASAP?

That would be awesome.

Why Windows 7 is not officially supported yet, many people have had success by manually installing the MiniProg3 driver with Windows 7. It's important to note that this workaround only works with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and does not work with the 64-bit version.

What source do you have for this? I couldn't find any information that even talked about windows 7. I also have the 64-bit version so that sucks for me. Any word on when there will be a solution?

Source is just internal testing some of our guys have done. We don't "officially" support Windows 7 yet, which is why this work around isn't mentioned in any of the software documents (like release notes).

I don't yet know the date for when PSoC Creator & PSoC Programmer (w/ drivers) will officially support Windows 7. I'll see if I can get a roadmap date.

We are planning on adding Windows 7 support to one of the upcoming PSoC Creator and PSoC Programmer Beta releases. Meaning we will be supporting this in the next couple of months.

For those of you who are having the same problem, I did figure out a solution.

I am currently running windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the latest beta versions of the psoc creator and programmer and installed them in compatibility mode for windows vista.

I have Windows 7 64 bit version. How or what steps did you take to make it work. I never had Vista on my machine.

Thank You

Philip

As of Beta 4, which was released at the end of November, Windows 7 should work without running in compatibility mode. We did not have time to test it as thoroughly as we will for Beta 5 and beyond, but it should install OK. Let us know on this board if that's not happening!

Thanks for the email. My SDK would not see my PSOC 3 MCU. I tried to program and I saw two RED LEDS on the MiniProg3 flash. I did not unstall programmer 3.06 or 3.10. Should I uninstall creator and the programmer and try I clean install?

I am dying to get on line.

You should see a red BUSY LED. It flickers off briefly when programming starts.

The STATUS LED should be green and on all the time.

Your second red LED could be Target Power which should not be on. You cannot power the DVK from the MiniProg3 - you need to connect the power supply to the board (I am sure you have done that). To stop "trying" to power the board go to the Creator Tools menu, select Options, then Programmer/Debugger, then MiniProg3 and uncheck "Supply Vtarg". It sounds more convoluted than it actually is! However, I doubt that will actually fix the problem but it is worth a shot.

What version of Creator do you have? I suspect/assume/hope it is Beta 4 (use the Help-About to check) but let me know...

I have the latest Creator driver. I am using the PS that came from cypress. I will check the Creator and make sure it is not trying to power the board. The last thing I will do is uninstall the driver and re install. I dying to get on line.

Thanks

Philip

Yes, if you have Creator Beta 4, I think that uninstalling BOTH Programmers and re-installing from here is a good idea (if the power thing does not help).

Select "PSoC Programmer 3.10.1 Beta" from the table at the bottom of the page.

I purchased  the PSoc 5 SDK. I checked  my miniprog3 and it did not light up. I bought a new one and tried it on the PSoc 3 and it failed to connect to the PC.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and experienced the same problems as above.

I was able to solve by turning off test signing of drivers. Open a command prompt with admin privledges and enter:

bcdedit /set testsigning on

plug the miniprog in and it should load fine.
